The other part of the game is skidding out of control every time you lightly touch the controls or don't touch the controls because the handling is terrible. Most of the game consists of grinding out parts to make your car slightly faster but it doesn't matter because the AI rubber bands making your gear or skill completely irrelevant. Raid events are somebody's idea of Burnout if Burnout was a giant pile of shit. It's impossible to get away from cars in a chase. I actually tried it again earlier today and it still has the same stupid problems as they had at launch. The only good thing about The Crew is the world map, there is nothing else good about it. I bet The Crew is quite cheap as well nowadays. Still arcadey, but based on actual physics, not on voodoo magic and shit coding. As far as I remember the handling was ok too.
If not else it gives you this huge map, quite a lot of cars, albeit generic (so is the garage in NFS), visual tuning options for days and a massive map with varied terrain. I do like the tasteful bespoke body kits on some of the cars. So compared to them I remember it as really, really average, but quite enjoyable.
There wasn't anything fundamentally wrong with it, the problem was it got released when Horizon 2 and Driveclub were still new and made by studios that had experience with the genre. and to finish the outlaw missions you literally have to drive 30mph dragging the cop behind, while crashing into every destructible prop just to rack up the fine and get more heat. Honestly, they did it adequately with Rivals, so what the hell went wrong here? Not to mention how friggin dramatic it gets once a cop starts ''chasing'' you, only to realise that you're unintentionally escaping after 10sec. Changing camshafts and pistons on an RX7 with a rotary engine is bullshit for a game that tries so hard to put accent on car and tuning culture, or the fact that the police AI is straight up retarded. I still enjoyed my 10 hours in EA access and was on the verge of buying it but the little things that are completely disregarded by the devs piss me off. Hot Pursuit 2010 hit the sweet spot in terms of letting you drift like a boss while having responsive input over the car, but at this point its a mess. The handling is crap even for a pure arcade racer - too clunky and artificial. NFS is all in your face with how ''cool'' and flashy it is and I do admit that the graphics and to an extent the tuning are great, but it has no damn substance. I think the crew might be a better option, it's just more varied. Click here for a list of other gaming subreddits.
